At Aurora Southern Highlands Steiner School we offer a big-hearted education that nourishes the emerging individuality of each child, based on the indications of Dr Rudolf Steiner. We are part of a global network of over a thousand such schools. An education at Aurora develops the child’s capacity for purpose, empathy and resilience. We provide a rich, engaging environment where students learn concepts and skills and actively involve the senses with real life experience and purposeful work.

The Steiner Approach

Our approach is based on a deep understanding of the unfolding capacities of the child’s physical and spiritual self. Our educational approach and content are aligned with each stage in the student’s development.

This approach unlocks the innate curiosity and creativity of our students, paving the way for them to develop strong academic and practical skills. The skills our students build through their time at Aurora Steiner stay with them for life, allowing them to contribute as morally responsible global citizens.

Our guiding star is that our young people, equipped with this education, can bring forward a social renewal and be ready to meet the future needs of our society and planet.

It feels like we are one big family. Sometimes we disagree, but in the end we will always be there for each other.

Our Journey

Our school opened its doors at the beginning of 2013, with just one room and a small group of Kindergarten children. Standing on the site of a previous Steiner school that closed many years ago, Aurora Steiner was brought to life by a dedicated group of parents and educators committed to bringing the children of the Highlands a true education for the future.

With a firm resolve to create a sustainable and enduring organisation, the school community grew slowly and steadily. Passionate educators were drawn by the innovative spirit of the school, and families came from far and wide whose children joined in our small composite classes.

Last year, 2020, saw significant growth and the first high school class and preparations were made for the establishment of stand-alone rather than composite classes in the lower grades. This year, Aurora Steiner has over 130 students from Pre-Kindy through to Year 9 and is well on the way to becoming a full PK-12 school.

Aurora Steiner is a fully accredited member of Steiner Education Australia, the Steiner Early Childhood Association, and the Association of Independent Schools NSW.
