About Us

Aurora Southern Highlands Steiner School is a registered and accredited coeducational school, welcoming students from Pre-Kindergarten through Year 12. Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Southern Highlands, just moments from the centre of Bowral, our campus provides a nurturing environment for learning and growth.

At Aurora, our approach is grounded in a deep understanding of each child’s developing physical, emotional, and spiritual capacities. We provide a rigorous, creative, and skills-based education that enlivens childhood and adolescence, fostering confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning.

Our curriculum is thoughtfully aligned with each stage of development, encouraging students to explore, imagine, and grow. Through this approach, students cultivate strong academic, relational, and practical skills, alongside creativity and critical thinking.

The capacities nurtured at Aurora extend far beyond the classroom. Graduates leave with the confidence, resilience, and ethical awareness to engage meaningfully with the world, contributing as thoughtful and responsible global citizens.

History

Our guiding star is that our young people, equipped with an Aurora education, can bring forward a social renewal and be ready to meet the future needs of our society and planet.

Aurora Southern Highlands Steiner School began its journey in 2013, with just one classroom and a small group of curious Kindergarten children. Built on the site of a former Steiner school, Aurora was brought to life by a passionate community of parents and educators, united by a shared dream: to offer the children of the Highlands an education that nurtures the whole child and prepares them for the future.

From these humble beginnings, the school flourished. Families travelled from near and far, inspired by the school’s creative and holistic approach, while educators were drawn to the energy and vision of a community dedicated to learning, growth, and care.

In 2020, Aurora reached an important milestone with the introduction of its first high school class and the establishment of stand-alone classes in the lower grades, allowing the school to provide a full Steiner journey from early childhood through to Year 12.

By 2024, our first graduating cohort completed their HSC, marking a moment of pride and celebration for the entire community. Each student stepped forward into the world with confidence, curiosity, and the enduring foundation of a Steiner education, ready to embrace new opportunities and make their mark.

Today, Aurora is home to over 150 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12. We are fully registered and accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), delivering both the Record of School Achievement (RoSA) and the HSC. Aurora is also a proud member of Steiner Education Australia (SEA), the Steiner Early Childhood Association (SECA), and the Association of Independent Schools of NSW (AISNSW).

Logo

Our Aurora Steiner logo is a living symbol, inviting each of us to see something of our own. Some may see a blossom, others a mandala, and others yet a circle of dancing light.

Look closely, and you may discover eight small figures, hands joined and arms reaching toward the sky. These figures first represented the eight children who walked through our doors on that very first day in 2013, carrying with them the spirit of curiosity and wonder.

Today, they are a circle that grows ever larger, embracing every member of the Aurora Steiner community. They remind us that when hearts and hands come together, we grow in strength, in warmth, and in light; together, we shine.
